Solve these 7 difficult porcelain problems and you will be a porcelain master!
1. Peel off the whole piece
Reason 1: The melting time of the metal casting process is too long, or the proportion of old metal is too high, resulting in the lack of some microelements that form the oxide film on the metal surface.
Solution: Improve casting time and adjust the ratio of old and new metal
Reason 2: The metal surface is contaminated and cannot thoroughly combine with OP
Solution: Make sure the metal surface is clean
Reason 3: The metal is too thin and not strong enough
Solution: Replace the metal, improve the strength of the metal, and ensure the thickness of the metal
2. Cracked porcelain
Reason 1: The metal expansion coefficient does not match
Solution: Replace the metal to match the expansion coefficient of the dental porcelain powder
Reason 2: Improper metal surface treatment
Solution: There should be no sharp edges and corners on the metal surface where the porcelain body forms stress; reasonable grinding tools and grinding methods (the grinding should not be too rough, and the grinding direction should be consistent)
Reason 3: Incorrect cooling method
Solution: According to the operation instructions of C3 porcelain powder, choose a cooling method that is consistent with its metal expansion coefficient.
Reason 4: The porcelain layer of the bridge body is uneven in thickness, which is too wide.
Solution: improve bridge design
Reason 5: Excessive sintering, vitrification of the porcelain body, and increased brittleness
Solution: control sintering times, control furnace temperature, and reasonable sintering procedure
3. The color is dead white, and the porcelain body is loose and porous
Reason 1: The preheating temperature is too high
Solution: Lower the preheating temperature
Reason 2: The sintering temperature is too low
Solution: Increase the sintering temperature
Reason 3: The vacuum pump is designed to start too late
Solution: Lower preheat/vacuum start temperature
Reason 4: The vacuum value is too low
Solution: Check the furnace and vacuum for leaks; set the vacuum to extract the whole process
Reason 5: Improper operation, loose porcelain body structure
Solution: keep the porcelain body moisture, absorb water correctly, and properly boost the porcelain powder
Reason 6: Porcelain powder is polluted
Solution: Proper storage and handling of porcelain powder
4. Whitening after the light glaze
Cause: Grinding stone debris remaining on the surface
Solution: Replace the abrasive tool, ensure the porcelain surface is clean, and prevent re-contamination after cleaning
5. The color is gray and dark
Reason 1: The thickness of the opaque is too thin
Solution: The thickness of the opaque paste is based on covering the metallic color. The paste should not be too thin and be careful not to mix it with water
Reason 2: The transparent porcelain is too thick
Solution: Understand tooth anatomy, control shrinkage, and porcelain thickness
Reason 3: Excessive sintering, vitrification
Solution: Correct the program and control the times of sintering
6. The surface of the porcelain body is rough and the surface is not glazed enough
Reason: The temperature is too low and the holding time is too short
Solution: Increase the sintering temperature and extend the holding time
7. The surface of the porcelain body is too smooth and blunt, without details
Reason: The temperature is too high and the holding time is too long
Solution: lower the temperature and shorten the holding time
